Don't do it.... PLEASE don't even think about living here!!!!

Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2007
I've worked in the apartment industry for over 4 years and lived in several apartment communities in Albuquerque. Never have I heard of, or experienced the poor (or lack of) customer service, shoddy workmanship by maintenance and scary clientelle at any other apartments in this city.
I have lived at the Aspens for over a year now, pay over a thousand dollars in rent each month and can't wait until my lease is up so I can get the heck out of here. We came here originally because when you drive up, the grounds are beautiful, the facilities are great and the staff seems more than willing to take your money and fill up their occupancy levels. After you sign on the dotted line, everything changes.
My family absolutely HATES living here. The management staff is so slow at responding to anything, including maintenance requests, domestic violence reports, drug trafficing and all night parties in neighboring apartments and pool area. They won't respond to any of the maintenance requests, including appliances that don't work, your heating and a/c not functioning unless you become completely IRATE with them and have already documented 2-3 requests beforehand. Once maintenance comes to your apartment they show their "great" customer service by squaring up with you and staring you down. It makes you feel like you're being threatened by just trying to get your oven to work so you can cook dinner for your family!!!
Don't live anywhere near the back of the community where landscaping doesn't exist, drip systems spray all over the place and broken sprinkler heads look like geisers wasting tons of water everywhere. There is also consistently a large amount of dog poop everywhere and garbage lying around. Having to call maintenance to pick up used syringes(for I'm sure drug use) in the parking lot, is just ludicris. If you can, try not to live by the pool. The gates didn't lock from February through the mid part of July, so it becomes a public pool/hot tub area to everyone and their mother at all hours of the night and early morning hours. It took us 3 months of video surveilance, 37 documented reports to the police, better business bureau complaints and a lot of lost sleep to get new locks put on the pool gates, a no trespassing sign displayed (per the APD) and the courtesy patrol that they advertised when we signed our lease.
If you plan on getting any kind of sleep at night, also don't live here for that reason. These wall are paper thin. If you live in a three bedroom like my family does, you can hear rap music blaring downstairs, people having a conversation in one room, kids playing on bunk beds next door and car alarms going off at all hours of the night outside. Paper thin walls are an understatement.
This experience has been an awful nightmare, and many of our neighbors feel the same way we do. My neighbor and his kids were entering their apartment the other night and said... "So did you finally get a new oven' Aren't these apartments just ghetto' I can't wait to get out of here when my lease is up in January!!!". When you enter the clubhouse at the Aspens to rent an apartment, just know it is all smoke and mirrors. You'll hate your experience on so many levels if you live here.
